24-Hour Skilled Care
Each shift is staffed with licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants who receive continuous, on-going education and training. Our staff-to-resident ratio surpasses federal and state regulations. We believe in a resident-centered approach when delivering personal care at Huron County Medical Care Facility.
Our Activities Department provides daily group programming at all levels of functional ability. The activities are resident-oriented to meet their interests and preferences. In addition to daily programming, we offer monthly outings, many special events, and encourage and assist residents to pursue independent activities of choice. Large and small group activities are available. Residents are assisted to and from activities if by the activity staff when needed.

The billing office is located on the first floor when entering through the main entrance. The hours of service are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. Our billing staff can aid you with billing and insurance questions, receiving payments for care or to the resident trust fund, coordinating beauty shop or satellite television services and guest meal tickets. Billing is completed on a monthly basis. Private Pay residents will be billed for room and board a month in advance; private insurances will be billed after the month is complete. If the resident has Medicaid benefits and has been assigned a Patient Pay, it will be due in the current month by the 15th; this must be paid before we can bill Medicaid for the remainder of the services.
The Caring Hands Community is our specialized floor that provides individualized care for your loved one. Its team members are trained to provide residents with the appropriate alternative intervention when residents exhibit behavioral, functional or mental complications.
Staff to resident ratio is greater related to the level of care the residents require. Staff is able to provide more one to one care during times when your loved one may be experiencing behavioral, functional or mental complications day or night. The care and routines of the day are constructed on an individual basis. The staff works with the resident, family, nurse and social worker to create a plan of care concentrated on the special needs of the resident.
Staff members who work in the Caring Hands Community specialize with dealing with multiple problems and working together to come up with a plan that best suits the individuals needs. They work with the residents in a group and individual setting. If residents do not enjoy coming to group activities, individual activities are planned and held for the resident in his/her room or a place he/she wishes, within the Caring Hands Community. Or attend large group activities with the rest of the facility residents.
If you have any questions regarding the Caring Hands Community, please feel free to contact Richelle Roth, BA Social Service (989) 269-6425, Ext: 113.
Our in-house Registered Dietitian oversees the programming of specialized meals to meet the needs and personal preferences of our residents in accordance with physician orders. Our Direct Dining option offers an exceptional culinary ambiance to our residents’ fine dining experience and expanded menu choices.
Our nursing units offer either short or long-term residences for people who need continuous nursing or custodial care services and require 24/7 assistance for health related conditions without being in a hospital. We provide the highest level of supervision and medical services. A plan of care is developed for each individual resident based on his or her needs at the time of admission. Personal nursing and care needs can be temporary in nature, such as recuperation, rehabilitation or therapy after a serious illness, surgery, medical event, accident or just respite care (relief for caregivers). Others may require care for an extended period of time due to the chronic nature of their illness, needs or disabilities.
Our beauty shop is located on the 2nd floor of our facility. Our beautician is Marvel Sowles. We do offer the use of our beauty shop facilities to other beauticians if you chose to have your personal beautician come in to complete your hair care.
Our consulting pharmacist conducts monthly reviews of the resident’s medical charts to ensure appropriate pharmaceutical levels. In addition to these regularly scheduled visits, quality assurance reports are prepared and discussed with the medical director, physicians, and nursing staff.

The social workers at HCMCF understand that the transition from home to a long term care facility can be very difficult and challenging for our residents and their families. We are committed to easing that transition by providing emotional and social support during this adjustment period.
We also assist with discharge planning for those residents who are here for rehabilitation. We assist by providing you with the community resources you need to transition successfully back to the community. We work closely with local home-care companies, durable medical equipment companies, and Medicaid waiver programs.
Other duties include advocating for our residents to be sure your emotional and social needs are met and maintained during your stay. We work directly with Community Mental Health, Senior Wellness Group of Michigan, Probate Court, Hospice and many other agencies to meet your needs.
